Construction Liability Insurance

Construction liability insurance alleviates any losses you may incur in a construction project.  Liability protection covers your business in case you or your employees do any harm to others as the result of unintentional or negligent practices.  The harm in question might be physical damage to a person or damage to equipment or property.

Construction risk insurance includes coverage that goes above and beyond the coverage that you’ll normally receive as a homeowner.  Because basic homeowner’s insurance doesn’t cover the costs of construction, you should consider getting this special construction coverage.  It may then protect you if any person is injured or any property is damaged during the construction contract.  Construction is often a dangerous matter, so you should shop around for the best possible rates before settling on the best company that offers you good, cheap cover.  Also, remember that one party usually takes charge of paying the premiums.  Sometimes this party is the contractor, and sometimes it is the client; this will depend on the contract itself.

A policy for construction insurance often has exclusions.  These may include:

  • Subcontractor work.
  • Defects in the construction effort.
  • Work covered by some kind of warranty.
  • Specific work materials such as asbestos or certain kinds of siding.
  • Mold or microscopic organisms.

Take care in selecting your risk insurance company.  Usually, course of construction insurance companies are allowed to make their own rates and options of coverage without being closely regulated.  Therefore, be careful about the different contract conditions when you sign the contract.

One significant advantage to construction insurance is that it covers all of the property at the job site as well as stored equipment that as temporarily off of the site.  This means that your construction materials are covered all the time – even while in transit to or from the site!  Also, heavy construction equipment is covered – and we know how much that can cost.

Other construction insurance cover options might include:

  • Job site trailers, offices and vehicles
  • Special contents at the construction site
  • Contents and property of model homes
  • Construction vehicles
  • Protection against earthquakes, floods, windstorms and other disasters
